Day 11 - Paihia
We make for the summer tourist town of Paihia, a very easy 22km for a well rested body.
11am photo, mostly forest road today.
This was the first ever TA section put into place in 1995.
We passed by the waitangi treaty grounds, the most culturally significant place in New Zealand. “On February 6th 1840, New Zealand’s founding document was signed here between Lieutenant-Governor Hobson, representing the British Crown and Māori chiefs.” But it cost 60$ to tour the grounds. The fact that the nations birthplace isn’t free to enter is a tad ridiculous. So none of us bothered.
I reached the beautiful bay of islands where the town of Paihia lies. Very scenic and very touristy, and I forked out the money to pay for a hostel bed. I bought and ate some 5$ street sushi, if there’s no more updates it was the sushi that killed me.
