Day 24 - Auckland
A ridiculously late start today. We are forced to wait for the tide to be at its lowest for the next crossing, and even then it will still be deep. Low tide isn’t until 3pm, an awkward timing considering we still want to hike 30km after to get to Auckland. For now the group at Stillwater waits impatiently.
11am photo admiring the TA graffiti.
Finally after an eternity of waiting the tide was low and we headed out to the crossing point which was not far from Stillwater. Here I put only my rain gear on. No point getting any clothes wet. Off we go.
Quite a deep crossing. The water was warm thankfully.
Now for another 30km to get to Auckland. I was expecting a full walk through the suburbs, but only to be pleasantly surprised by beaches and coastal walkways.

Cool church in Devonport.
I caught the 8:45pm ferry to downtown not wanting to wait for Florian and Joren as they were still an hour and half behind me. Made it to my hostel and remembered it was friday night and everyone was going out to the bars. Would’ve liked to join but I’m a very stinky dirty hiker wearing crocs, … so not the vibe. Next time Auckland.
