Day 37 - Camp No. 10
I woke up on top the mountain to the sound of rain and wind flapping my tent about. It was cold last night, finally, so I slept great. I hoped for a sunrise at least but alas the weather little regard for my whims, rain it is. On the bright side today was a downhill day on easy biking track.
I made my way down a unmaintained doc track that was fairly bushwhacky. Once I regained the biking track it was smooth sailing.
I went over a few properly huge suspension bridges along the way, crossing some hundred feet above the valley bottom. These helped break up the monotony of the flat easy track.
11am photo along a flowering pathway.
Found some newly hatched baby swallows
Half of todays track was on an old railway for the forestry industry. There was some interesting relics of this bygone age still left.
Big milestones today, right before my camp I passed not only the 50km mark for the day, but also the 1000km of the trip! 30% Te Araroa complete! A good sense of accomplishment today.
