Day 43 - Whanganui
The last day on the river. We end our journey 45km down river in the town of Whanganui. Like yesterday the river continues to slow as it reaches the sea, becoming harder to paddle.
The Whanganui river is the first river to obtain its own legal identity. A river with legal rights the same as any other NZ citizen. An interesting concept, I suppose it made me respect the river I was on more.
A boat got washed up and stuck on the river bank.
Taking a long lunch waiting for the tide to go down, we’re getting close to the sea.
We reached our destination Whanganui, after 5 days and ~200km. An excellent experience. A journey everyone should do given the chance.
Unpacking our barrels and repacking our bags. Getting use to walking is not going to be easy I think.
I found Ronald McDonald.
