Day 56 - Palmerston North

Today my plan was to get to downtown Wellington, and immediately leave Wellington back to Palmerston North. Somehow it felt wrong being in Welly without completing everything north of me.

A lazy morning, only 10km to reach the train station.  Didn’t leave till past 11am.

The four of us, with the Americans again, headed out. Their plan was to have a short day to another trail angel in town.

The suburbs of welling are very hilly. Like San Francisco hilly. So we walked up and down very steep streets and urban parks.

We stopped in the botanical gardens for lunch. From here I broke off from the Americans and made my way to the train station.

The train station took me to Waikanae, and then I hitched the last 90km to Palmerston North. Took three hitches, and all of the people who picked up were very friendly. The last was a father and two young sons. One of which could name every Canadian province.

I’m back at Gail and Johns tonight. I had such good experience last time I’m happy to be back. Just in time for dinner too.
