Day 84 - Hurunui No. 3
I got up extra early today, not because I some sort of big day ahead, but because someone slept next to me and snored Extra loud. Up and hiking by 7. An excellent sunrise however. It was the first properly cold morning. I almost put my gloves on for the first time.
Today I sped along on some cruise paths that took my in and out of the valley floodplains and forests sections. I came along an excellent looking lake and spent a while taking in the view with the cows.
11am photo in the mossy forests. I must’ve got lost a dozen times in here.
Today I hit some natural Hot springs. Not too often I can say I sat in some hot springs mid hiking. I got there before the other hikers and managed to have the place to myself for an hour. Just me and the sand flies. I know I carried my big net 2000km for a reason. It was back and forth from the hot springs and the cold river. Just watch out for the brain eating amoeba.
I got to No. 3 hut and took an easy evening playing cards. These huts existed historically mainly for the benefit of hunting, but now hikers are really the only ones that use them these days.
