Day 85 - Bush Camp 2174

I want to split the next days into two separate days rather than 3, but there’s no convenient hut so I’ll be looking for a place to wild camp some 35km away. It will be an interesting day because it seems like that most of the trail is underdeveloped.

Log hopping on trail.

My favourite bridge so far. Really just a tight rope across the river.

11am photo descending down from Harpers Pass.

A massive slip cause a section of the trail to be washed out. Walking on the riverbed for a while. I ended up crossing lots of streams today, too many to count. My feet never had a chance to dry.

The grass seeds love sticking to my legs.

After crossing the Taramakau Riverthe markers gave way all together and I was left to bushwack along the river banks and cross plenty of streams. The day of 1000 streams.

Eventually I made it to a suitable halfway point and pitched my tent. I lost Marika and Cam, who I’ve been hiking with for a few days now. I think they got ahead while I was bushwhacking. I’ll see them tomorrow wherever they camped.
