Day 116 - Colac Bay

Before continuing through the Longwood Forest I was treated with a sunrise. It’s going to be another muddy day from what I’m hearing. I’ll push through the whole forest for Colac Bay today.

Turns out it was muddy. The NOBOs weren’t lying. This was nearly as bad as Pirongia on the North Island (Day 32).

11am photo walking on grass, it was so wet it felt like walking on a sponge.

The countdown is on.

For lunch I stopped at Martins hut. It was a horror house, most walkers stay here, but I made sure I could get through the forest in a day. This place defs is haunted. Most the floor boards were missing, and the walls were falling apart.

At the next hut, which was somehow even worse than the last, I found a little surprise; Trail Magic. A concept bigger in the American thru hiking community. Some absolute legend hiked a cooler full of treats 4hrs up the trail for walkers. Beer, chocolates, oranges. Big smiles here.

After more mud, slips, trips, and falls I arrived at the end of the track. An easy 5km road walk and I arrived at Colac Bay, a surfer town. In the tavern I got a good feed, and watched the rugby game on TV with the locals.
