Day 95 - 96 - Bush Camp 2465
I took a zero in Tekapo to visit my friend and to take advantage of a free place to stay. It’s wicked hot out these days and hiking in this heat is just as uncomfortable as walking in the rain. I spent the day eating icecream and staying indoors.
Big brekkie brings the smiles
Appropriate for an area that looks like Skyrim.
The next day I started out once again. This next section is a long flat road and cycle path. 75km long which I’ll split into two days. Many people bike this section. My plan was to have a late start and walk into the night a ways. This is a common thing to do in this section because this area is a dark sky reserve, and the star gazing opportunities are amazing.
What most of the day is going to looks like. Walking next to the canals. Thankfully today was overcast. Annoyingly it was very windy and I walked at an angle all day so as to not get blown away.
Got me that Gatorade ive been craving.
I reached the next lake of Pukaki, another ultra blue lake.
All the van lifers taking advantage of the free camping in the area.
A couple Germans walking ahead. They were celebrating Carnaval, even gave me a beer. Good lads. Danke!
Soon the sun dropped and the stars began to shine. They were epic as expected, the moonless nights working to my advantage.
I pitched my tent and continued to star gaze into the night. Easy to lose track of time when lost in the sky.
