Day 97 - Lake Ohau

I woke up later than I normally would. I stupidly pitched my tent close to the trail and other night hikers woke me up around 4am.

The fields being taken over by pine trees. A tree that is native to Canada taking over this part of New Zealand. This is also the area used to film Pelanor Fields in lotr.

I reached the town of Tiwzel where I need to do a resupply and charge my devices. Over my 11am picture. From here I’ll walk another 30km to camp.

The next 30km went similarly to yesterdays. A easy gradient road or bicycle path. It’s a ripper hot day today, I don’t like it. Luckily I’m next to some beautiful mountain streams that are good for swimming.

Many of the canals here have Salmon farms inside them. By coincidence, I’m sure, they happened to be a lot of people fishing right next to them. Hoping for trout attracted to the farm by the fish feed no doubt.

I reached an unserviced DOC campground a bit later than expected, around 9. Smashed 2000 calories and off to sleep on the hard ground in my tent.
