Day 98 - Tin Hut
Bad weathers coming in the forecast tomorrow, and there’s a river crossing ahead. So my plan is to push forward to get across the river today rather than have to wait perhaps two days for the river to lower.
So hot in this area the marker poles have melted.
11am picture making my way up a mountain, thankfully shaded by trees.
Spring water pipe, excellent refreshing agua
Easy to get lost in this area, plenty of misleading winding paths. Clear signs are always welcome.
Here’s the Ahuriri river valley that I wanted to cross today.
It got up our knees and was fast flowing. A tame crossing today, but after bad weather this would be uncrossable.
Knowing there was bad weather ahead I pushed to a private hut another 10km ahead. I passed some 7 other hikers who opted to tent before. No idea why they didn’t want to walk an extra hour to avoid a night of heavy rain. More room in the hut for me I guess.
