Day 69 - Pelorus Bridge
Another morning of patching my sleeping mat, and another night of sleeping on the ground. I’m actually surprised how well I can sleep on the hard ground, maybe I don’t need a sleeping mat at all.
Today I head to the edge of the Richmond ranges, and a resupply at the town of Havelock along the way.
A simple walk on some track along the roadways, a nice change from being on the road though.
Today is last day I will see the ocean for sometime. In fact I will not see the ocean again until the final days of my journey.
11am photo walking a boardwalk into Havelock.
I did a big resupply at the local grocery. A small store, but it was very well stocked with all the things that hikers buy. Clearly they’ve seen enough walkers come through to cater to their needs. They do charge a pretty penny for the hot items like tuna and ramen however.
I smashed out the last 20km on some roads and pasture land arriving at my camp, Pelorus Bridge. A beautiful river system with deep pools and clear mountain water. I gave my phone to the camp office to charge for the night so I didn’t get any pictures. He lets TA hikers camp downriver on a grassy patch. I don’t think it’s technically allowed because there is a big no camping sign at the grassy patch. But he knows TA walkers arnt fussy and will pay a 10$ for a piece of grass where ever it is.
