Day 4 - Ahipara
Today is another 30km day to the first town of Ahipara. And it’s looking like another very beautiful day. I’ll cover up again to stop burning. As I’ve learned there was a recent volcanic eruption which caused a hole in the ozone layer. Even on a cloudy day the UV index is upwards of 10. Explains why we’re all burning.
My 11am photo, look familiar?
I stopped at the ninety mile holiday beach park for lunch with the English couple. I learned their packs are a mere 3kg (6.6lbs) base. My pack titanic in comparison. The camp host was exceptionally kind and offered us apples and beer even though we were not going to stay at her camp. Very good.
The end of 90mile beach. It’s finished.
The last 5km of the beach were slow for me, taking over an hour to hike. But at the end I took a swim in the cold ocean, a refreshing way to end 90 mile beach. A long, beautiful 4 days. I stayed at a surfing hostel in Ahipara that had a camping section.
Cousin Wes here. Just wanted to let you know I'm enjoying what I'm reading! Went back to the beginning of your blog to make sure I didn't miss anything. Hope all is well!
