Day 7 - Blackridge
A day of rain the forecast said. Not a good sign for the forest track coming up. I packed up my tent inbetween bursts of rain, shoveled down some oatmeal and was off. A short day of 17km to the next camp site, Black ridge. A camp that acted as staging ground for the gruelling Omahuta Puketī Forest Track.
Low lying clouds.
The 11am photo, eating our tuna wraps.
Cleaning our shoes for fungal diseases.
One of hundreds of possum traps, an invasive species to New Zealand. I’m reading a book about NZ history where it said 50% of all NZ bird species were extinct by 1700 due to invasive species such as the possum.
We reached camp early around noon. Then the rain started falling in earnest. Over the afternoon and evening we got around 35-40ml of rain. A relentless pouring rain the likes of which I’ve ever seen in Canada. We played card games and asked eachother our favourite meals to pass the time. Making me quite hungry.
Huddled under the camp shelter.
